Issue Headline

[Why is the ISSUE important ?]

This page may answer a question "So what?" by explaining why changes in the state of the ISSUE are an important matter for the City and its citizens. It can be indeed due to its influence on peoples' life and well-being, economy, and/or other components of natural or social environment.

If some of the impacts do cause change in other components of the environment, a user may be further referred to corresponding chapters (e.g. on Human Health) for more detailed information.

(The page corresponds to the "I" part of the DPSIR framework. In some cases, instead of making a separate page, this information may be presented as part of the state page.)

Presentation on this page will normally consist of text explaining the situation, and (preview) graphics such as trends, maps, diagrams etc. displaying specific indicators. For each indicator, a preview can be linked to a separate page where a full-screen graphic and information about this indicator are, ideally with links to related data tables and sources of information.

It is a challenge to reach here a balance between the amount of text and graphics (not too much or too little of either), as well as to make sure that text and graphics are not separate from each other but are used in a complementary way to explain each other.

At a later stage, a list of possible indicators for each ISSUE will be included into this tool to help CEROI cities to select or develop their own indicators for their reports. Below is an example of how a list of possible "impact" indicators may look for the Air Quality chapter (here for illustrative purposes only):

  • population exposure to air pollution (OECD 98)
  • number of days per year on which alarm levels are exceeded and traffic circulation is stopped (European foundation 98)
  • acute respitory deaths defined as percentage of deaths due to acute respiratory diseases (UNCHS 1995)
  • damage caused by acid precipitation and deposition to buildings and monuments, ecosystems (OECD 98)
