Historical Background

    The first medical centre in Pishpek was built in 1878. In 1895 in the reception room of the hospital there were 3 beds.  It was created Pishpek medical site, which  was served by 3 persons among them a plot doctor, medical  assistant and a midwife. In 1907 in Pishpek the first dispensary for migrant peasants arrived to the district was opened. In 1913 the 11-thousand population of Pishpek was served with 5 doctors (2 of them were dentists), 8 medical assistants and midwives. The district hospital had physician, surgical, obstetrical, nursery departments, ambulance clinic and dental surgery department. In 1926 in Pishpek the hospital for 100 beds, malaria clinic, tubercular sanatorium, tubercular dispensary for 25 beds functioned. A nursery consulting service, an emergency department worked too. The development of public health services is connected to such names as M.E. Volskiy, A.L. Brudnyi, A.A. Pokrovskiy, A.T. Akhunbayev, A.Abdurakhmanov, U.B. Bayzakova, M.I. Kitayev, M.M.Mirrahimov, M.Mamakeev, E. Ryskulova and other scientists and practical doctors.

     In 2000 the number of hospital establishments of the city included hospitals for the adults and children hospitals, maternity houses, dispensaries, hospitals at Scientific Research Institutes. The population received Medical aid from 62 outpatient clinics. Among them policlinics, nursery clinics, dentist and cosmetological clinics, female consultations, medical consultations at the enterprises and institutions.
