Historical background

    In 1878 the first local plan of the city with quarters of streets going from the south to the north and with area of 1-1,5 ha. was made. In the center of the city were placed: Nikolskaya church and military parade-ground. There prevailed one-storeyed apartment houses of wattle and daub or adobe construction; later began to occur two-storeyed brick structures. The architecture of apartment houses had simple character, typical to the provincial steppe settlements. The first large structures were buildings of railway station, press house, musical school, medical technical school, cinema "Ala-Too" etc. National Kirghiz ornament was used in decoration.

In 1937 for the first time a topographical shooting of the city was made and the General plan of Frunze was made. The territories, favorable in the sanitary relation for residential building were allocated, connection between separate areas of the city was stipulated in regard to accommodation of public and cultural - educational establishments, industrial and municipal objects.In the city parks (Fuchik park), squares (Central square), gardens, new green forest tract and reservoirs are created. There appears a structure of small architectural forms – the pavilion of mineral waters “Ak-Suu”.

With increased speed there were constructed buildings of schools, kindergartens, technical schools, high schools, medical, and cultural-household establishments. The construction of a complex of buildings of the Academy of sciences, House of Unions (1959), building of urban executive committee (1957), Theatre of opera and ballet (1955), State library by N.G. Chernyshevskyi (1962), Museum of fine arts (1974), department store "Aichurek" (1974). The East and Western industrial sites are created. The special place in architecture occupies the Museum n the city parks (Fuchik park), squares (Central square), gardens, new green forest tract and reservoirs are created. There appears a structure of small architectural forms – the pavilion of mineral waters "Ak-Suu" (architect A.M. Albanskyi, sculptor O.M. Manuilova). of Frunze (1967). A number of cultural-household buildings is erected: - Kirghiz drama theatre (1970), Russian drama theatre (1971), House of political education (1974), Palace of sports (1974), House of communal services (1975), hotel "Pishpek" (1975), Circus (1976), Philharmonic Society (1980), Air terminal "Manas" (1981). The external shape of streets Soviet, Belinskyi, Lenin and World prospectuses was appreciably improved. In large scales the apartment houses in a complex with welfare establishments (microareas, "Southern gate", 5- and 9-storeyed large-panel houses (architect E.G. Pisarskoi, V.E. Sedov), 16-storeyed monolithic aseismic houses) are under construction.

In 1979 the project of a detailed lay-out of the center of Frunze is authorized, which was developed on the basis of city development and agglomeration, and according to which the Lenin museum, covered collective-farm market, House of communication are constructed.
