State of the Environment in Bishkek 2001

  Annually the city population and local self-administration organs carry out work on sanitary cleaning of territories, planting new trees and shrubs, construction and repairs of irrigation networks, clearing the territories from wild hemp. 14 seminars devoted to the problem of environmental protection have been held. 40,350 young plants have been planted.

For the last few years public (civil) ecological organizations, missions of international ecological societies have been established and opened in the republic.In 1999 over 150 associations, ecoclubs, societies, charity funds were functioning in the republic. The most important of them are: "Diamond" association, "Club of nature lovers", "Doctors for nuclear war prevention" committee, "Mairam" society, Ecological movement of Kyrgyzstan "Aleine", Ecological movement "Tabiyat", Charity fund "Man and nature".
