About this report

Specialists of Research Laboratory on Nature Protection Ministry have prepared this report for Nature Protection of Tajikistan in conjunction with UNEP/GRID-Arendal (Norway) in the frames of CEROI initiative for Central and Eastern Europe cities.

N. Safarov - Head of Research Laboratory on Nature Protection carried out coordination of all works to prepare SoE Dushanbe. Russian language editor-in-chief and major scientific contributor is T. Novikova. English language reviewer is S. Parsons.

Project coordinator and leading authors wish to acknowledge gratefully the contribution of other experts and specialists from different ministries and institutions.

Official lunch of the report was organized on 7 September 2001 in respect to 10-years anniversary of Independence of Tajikistan. The officials from the government, president's office, Khukumat (city administration), Ministry for nature protection, UNDP, NGOs attended SoE Dushanbe presentation. Participants pointed very good structure and informative value of the report, and recommended to publish SoE on the paper and CDs. Important recommendation was to use SoE Dushanbe as the basis to develop the city environmental programme.

SoE Dushanbe includes description of the state of the urban environment during last years (1996-2000). Also, there are historical records of climatic conditions (since 1946) and air pollution (since 1982).
