The city centre with its historical monuments is attractive for tourism. The number of beds in accommodation facilities is 2,058, of which 1,306 beds are in hotels, motels and lodging houses. The number of visitors achieved 108,298 persons in the last year, of which foreign visitors represented more than one third.
The important position of the city on the north – south axis with connection to Poland and with direct relations to Hungary predestines Košice for greater development of tourism. However, these predeterminations have remained unused.
There is a shortage of technical infrastructure and accommodation facilities of higher quality in the tourist centres. The promotion of the city and its historical monuments is insufficient. It is necessary to improve the quality of air, and mainly quality of surface sources of water suitable for bathing in summer.
