 What is the general situation with the ISSUE

During the last 30 years, the health state of the population in the Košice Region has been significantly changed. The occurrence of infectious diseases was decreased and the number of civilisation diseases was increased.

 What is causing the problems

The impaired quality of air originating from industrial production, power engineering and transportation is the main risk factor of the environment for the health of population.

 What are the impacts of this ISSUE

The State Health Institute in Košice monitors the state of health of the city population for a long time and compares it with the state in the Košice – Country District, which represents the hinterland of the city.

 What is being done to fix the problems

  • Implementation of measures for the improvement of air quality.

  • Implementation of measures for drinking water supply improvements in the hinterland of Košice.
