The impaired quality of air originating from industrial production, power engineering and transportation is the main risk factor of the environment for the health of population. The quality of surface and underground waters, insufficient level of connectionto sewerage and treatment of wastewaters, mainly in the hinterland of Košice, represent other serious problems. At the present time, drinking water is supplied to Košice in required quantity and quality, however, many villages in the surroundings of Košice suffer from the lack of water and there are also cases of hygienically harmful water. Noiseoriginating from transportation, mainly of road, railway and air transport, is a serious and still underrated risk for the health of population. The problems with the disposal of wastes by their incineration are very serious both from health and hygienic points of view.
