Conservation

How is the INSTRUMENT applied to solve City environmental problems?

The Slovak Republic has created a system of environmental legislation (60 acts and more than 800 implementary regulations). The legal protection is related to all areas of the environment, but in practical life they are not enforced completely. For instance, there was amended The Waste Management Act.

The objectives in care of the environment, which are established in the ”Košice Health Plan” are related to the areas as follows:

  1. To protect air in Košice against pollutants

  2. To ensure the sufficient quantity of drinking water for Košice and to reduce pollution of water (for drinking and recreational purposes) under allowed limit.

  3. To minimize the origin of wastes, to utilize and correctly dispose wastes of all types.

  4. To ensure more lawns, vegetation and parks in the city.

  5. To pay increased attention to housing and transport.

  6. To eliminate other hazardous factors, which mean potential endangerment of health

  7. To assert industrial health and safety.
