The Slovak Republic follows the Directive for the
approximation environmental legislation of the European Union issued
by the UE Commission, and takes part in Meetings of the EU
Commissioner for the Environment with environmental ministers of the
Member States of EU and associated states.
The Slovak organizations participate in activities
of several international non-governmental organizations with
environmental orientation, such as International Ecological
Association (INTECOL), International Association for Land Ecology
(IALE), International Committee for Monuments and Settlements
(ICOMOS), European Centre for Nature Conservation (ECNC) and many
others.
Several non-governmental international
organizations have their offices in Slovakia, e.g. Regional
Environmental Centre (REC) for Central and Eastern Europe,
Greenpeace International, International Union for Conservation of
Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and
many others.
Košice cooperates with the following twin cities:
Bulgaria – PLOVDIV, the Czech Republic – Ostrava,
Finland – RAAHE, Hungary – MISKOLC, BUDAPEST, Poland – RZESZÓW,
Russia – SANK PETERBURG, Germany – WUPPERTAL, COTTBUS, Italy –
VERONA, Turkey – BURSA, the Ukraine – UZHGOROD, the USA – MOBILE,
Serbia – NIŠ.
The agreements on cooperation also establish the
requirements for the formation and conservation of the environment
as a whole.
