Sensitive plant communities:
The vegetation of the whole of the Magaliesberg (it includes the eastern
spurs of the mountain east of Mamelodi (Donkerhoek) and further eastwards to
the Bronkhorstspruit Dam;
A rare grass specie called Agrostis eriantha
occur in the
Centurion (Irene).
Sections of the vegetation of the Schurweberg, Rietvlei Dam Nature Reserve,
Skanskop (Voortrekker Monument and other open spaces in the old GPMC area
(especially Centurion) are covered by some undisturbed Bankenveld);
Some Clay Thorn Bushveld (a vegetation type already 60% transformed with
only 0,93% of it conserved) occurs in the Onderstepoort Nature Reserve;
Vlei areas: NPMSS & along the Kaalplaasspruit, along the Sand river in
Rosslyn and around the Bon Accord Dam. PRETORIA & Along the Montana spruit to
the north of Doornpoort, Along the Apies River and its tributaries in between
Pretoria North and Wonderboom (regarded as extremely sensitive), Along the
Apies River (in the vicinity of Hermanstad, Roseville, Daspoort and Capital
Park & this section of the Apies river stretches adjacent to D.F. Malan Drive),
along the Nagtegaal Spruit in the vicinity of Claremont and Booysens, along the
Hartebeest Spruit in Deernes, Along the Nooitgedacht Spruit adjacent to
Proklamasie Heuwel, along the Skinner Spruit (along the section which runs
between Lotus Gardens and Atteridgeville, along the section of the Moreleta
spruit which runs between Jan Niemand Park and Eersterust, along the section of
the Moreleta Spruit which runs through Silverton, along the Faerie Glen Spruit
(to the south of the Bronberge), along the Moreleta Spruit in the Faerie Glen
Nature Reserve, along the Waterkloof Spruit in Waterkloof, along the Eeufees
Spruit, Timeball Creek Spruit and Oudehout Spruit in the vicinity of the
Fountains Valley, large areas of vlei vegetation occur in and around the
Rietvlei Dam and all the rivers and streams in the Rietvlei Dam Nature Reserve.
CENTURION & Along the Riet Spruit (to the south and in the center of
Rooihuiskraal), along the Sesmyl Spruit and the Olifant Spruit (to the west of
the Rietvlei Dam Nature Reserve) and along the Hennops River (to the south and
the south west of the Zwartkop Nature Reserve.
Red Data Plant Species:
The red data species occur mainly in the protected areas (i.e. the Nature
Reserves, Bird Sanctuaries, on ridges and along rivers and in Conservation
areas. The red data species information for the area is regarded as
confidential and therefore it is not possible the supply more red data
information.

Sensitive plant communities
GOSP Phase 2 rates the Northwestern section of the study area as an area
with medium conservation potential and the study rates the southwestern and
southeastern corners of the study area as areas with high conservation
potential. The IDP 2000 of the Eastern Gauteng Services Council describes the
above-mentioned southwestern section as a Nature Reserve/Conservancy.
The northwestern section (includes the farms Bultfontein 107 JR, Sterkwater
106 JR and Stinkwater 97 JR) of the area used to be a fenced private Nature
Reserve, but due to illegal squatting and its related problems such as the
on-going destruction of security fencing, the removal of trees for fire wood,
dangerous veld fires, the trapping and killing of animals for food etc. most of
the animals were removed from the farms and the area is no more protected.
Apart from the natural areas below the 1:50 year flood line of the
Stinkwater Spruit, its tributaries and farm dams, the steeper southern portion
of the farm Bultfontein 107 JR is still fairly undisturbed, and it is regarded
as ecologically sensitive. Many bird species occur along the Stinkwater Spruit,
especially around the farm dams – often used for bird watching.

Sensitive Plant communities:
The southern part of the area consists of Bankenveld of the Central
variation.
A section of the Magaliesberg, which is proclaimed as a Protected Natural
Environment, also occurs in the area. Undisturbed parts of Bankenveld and other
sensitive plant communities and red data species occur in the protected and
unprotected parts of the Magaliesberg
Due to the fact that DACEL earmarked large sections of the Crocodile River
TRC (i.e. the southern part which includes the Schurweberg, Kareebosrand etc.)
as sections with Conservation value, it can be assumed that these areas include
sensitive and red data flora and fauna species.
Red data Plant species:
Red data species occur adjacent to the De Wildt Cheetah Park.
