INVENTORY

 

 NATURE PROTECTED AREAS

  • nesting grounds of 25 species protected in Latvia,
  • 20 species of the birds listed in Bird Directive 79/409/EEC
  • 32 species of plants protected in Latvia
  • 2 species of plants protected in the Europe (Directive 92/43/EEC)
  • 3 amphibian species protected in Latvia and listed in Habitats and Species Directive 92/43/EEC
  • Coastal meadows and wetlands are rich of wild orchids - 10 species or 29 % are found in Riga`s nature protected areas from 31 common in Latvia

 FORESTS

  • Dominating species of the trees are pines - 88.1 %.
  • Most valuable city forest sections with are of 214.8 ha are listed as specially protected forest biotopes

 PARKS AND GARDENS

  • 354 taxa in total, 198 species.
  • 45 species are characteristic for Latvia, others have been introduced.
  • Dendrological rarities: Ginkgoopsida, Magnolia acuminata, and others

 NOBLE TREES

  • During the inventories of noble trees of 1998/1999 there were 110 (9 different species) trees and bushes of local species and 634 (229 taxa)  of introduced ones are listed
  • Sixteen of them are under protection of the state, the rest do not have any protection by law
