Air quality is one of the most pressing current environmental problems in Riga. Since the beginning of nineties, emissions from stationary sources (CO, SO2, NOx) have reduced markedly. However, as the consequence of the rapidly increasing traffic in Riga, emissions from mobile sources are growing up (NOx, CO, benzene, particles). Research indicates that today traffic is responsible for more than 60% of CO and NOx, released in air by different sources in Riga.
