  What is being done to solve the problems

 Protected areas of nature have been created:

  • five nature reserves
  • one nature park of state importance

In the Official Plan of the City (1995 - 2005), the preservation of nature as one of the priorities is set up. Solutions are formulated in City of Riga Environmental Strategy for 2000 - 2010.

 

Based on tripartite agreement between Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia and the Environmental Committee of the Riga City Council, study and management took place in 1985, 1998. In Daugavgriva and Vecdaugava nature reserves. Riga City Council has supported the management of its protected territories of nature, but the actions have not been continuous.
