Green areas

What is being done to solve the problems

In the Official Plan of the City (1995 - 2005) the preservation of nature as one of the priorities is set up. Solutions are formulated in the City of Riga Environmental Strategy for 2000 - 2010

Based on the Official Plan, a Policy document for the development of Riga 's land amelioration systems was written in 1998 - 1999, and a Project for Forest Management in the Riga City - in 1997. In 1998, plans were written for the protection of nature in the Jaunciems and Vakarbulli Nature Protected Areas

In 1995, a tripartite agreement was concluded between the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), the Latvian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development and the Environmental Committee of the Riga City Council. The agreement, implemented between 1995 and 1998, provided for the study and management of Daugavgriva and Vecdaugava Nature Protected Areas

Since 1998 resources from the City`s Investment and development funds were obtained to implement project of reconstruction in several City territories: parks, gardens, squares etc.

The management of City forests is supported by City Council continuously
