 WASTE SORTING, COLLECTION AND DUMPING

About 9% of the total amount of produced waste (glass, paper, metal, construction waste, and plastics) is collected and processed. Over the past years the amount of sorted waste has increased.

Waste from Riga is mainly dumped at the Getlini dumping site located in the territory of the Stopini rural council - 15 kilometres southeast of Riga The site has been in operation for 25 years and covers 87 hectares. Solid industrial and household waste is dumped there.

Financial resources for the management of waste are based on payments made by individuals and legal entities. Payments go to the waste collection and transportation companies directly or through housing authorities.
