 Use of land
 

 ACTION

 For the efficient utilisation of the city's territories in line with the principles of sustainable development the Riga City Council is determined to implement the folowing priority action programme

  • Monitoring the use of land and development in the city in accordance with the land use plan; regular reporting to the Riga City Council and the public regarding development and land use trends in the city
  • Evaluation of all projects submitted to the Riga City Council and decisions taken by the Council in relation to land use according to the policies of the Official Plan, introducing, where appropriate, changes in the Official Plan consistent with the existing national laws, rules and regulations and binding municipal provisions
  • Provision of information to municipal authorities and the public about the distribution and dynamics of the use of land with the aid of modern technologies (aerial photographs, geographical information systems)
  • Evaluation of Riga's land policy from economic, social and environmental aspects and preparation of proposals to improve the policies in the Official Plan
  • Application of the land cadastral value and real estate tax as a tool to achieve sound and effective use of territories
  • Preparation of proposals on how to improve laws concerning territorial planning, use of land and determination of land cadastral value working together with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development and the National Land Administration
