Waste management
CONTENT OF
WASTE
In 1995,
research was carried out on the content of household waste in
Riga in three different districts. Two districts
with apartment houses and a district with private small-family
houses were chosen. The research was carried out in spring and in
autumn. The average percentage of waste content was the following
(see Figure
51).
The figure show
that glass, paper, cardboard and plastic are in sufficient amount,
in order to perform waste sorting and processing. Over the last
years the amount of waste has increased per capita, mainly because
of imported goods' packing.
