Energy system in Tbilisi

The energy system of the city is totally oriented towards the providing for the minimum demands for the energy in the city: in communications, municipal and industrial sectors. The amount of power consumed by industry has decreased and the share of power consumed by the population has increased:

  • In 1990 41.3% of the total electric energy consumed was associated with industry, while 16.3% - with supply of inhabitants;
  • In 1999 6.5% is associated with industry, while 64.5% - with supply of inhabitants.

 Implementation of the approaches of energy efficiency becomes the task of secondary significance in the city. This trend probably will continue in general in the nearest future.

In case of adequate development of private sector it is expected that the well-off part of the population shall use the sources of alternative energy, which has got the high potential for purchasing adequate technologies.
