Transport

What is the transport in Tbilisi like

Motor park existing in the city is obsolete, of 15-20 years average age. Recently the existing soviet-production motor cars are factually added with motor cars bought from abroad, which the vast majority is obsolete from. The result of this is that it could be said that there is no "rush hour" in Tbilisi. The central part of the city is particularly overloaded.

The planning of city transport remaining uncharged from Soviet period does not meet modern requirements by its approaches (being oriented on "conductability" of streets, speed of cars, and not on pedestrians). Citizens are exposed to motor exhaust, especially, in crowded central areas, since:

- speed of cars reduced because of increase in their quantity,
- indicator of
the city street quality became much worse,
-
the quantity of fuel is not regulated,
-
exaust fumes are not regulated ( at least at the level of prohibition of black fumes),
-
creation of walking zones would not be carried out,
- green zone areas have been reduced (see green areas ) because of uncontrolled construction process.

By the expert assessment the import of leaded gasoline has been reduced (see toxic contamination ). This trend is still unclear, since there are evidences of unauthorized adding of ethylised lead on sites (their number is expected to increase). Actions of relevant services are inefficient, and public awareness is not directed towards these issues.
