During the last years the state
finances allocated for the protection of health were cut down about
ten times which made the functioning of material and other resources
aimed at the medical care of the population practically impossible
even at minimal (lowest) level. This led to the beginning of the
process of the reorientation of the health system in Georgia in
1995. State Nosology Medical Standards was developed and was
introduced before 2000., relevant tariffs was worked out. The
regulation (control) of internal standards and price-agreement in
medical entities were begun. The medical and pharmaceutical network
based on personal ownership is being created. The process of immunization of the population has
been restored which practically gave the chance to control the
potential possibility of the spread of particularly hazardous
infectious diseases. The Government fully financed outpatient and
hospital treatment of phthisiological and psychiatric diseases. Some
attention was paid to the arrangement of safety aspects for mothers
and children. This fact, to some extent, stopped reduction of

In 1998 the price of
municipal program per capita constituted 6.5 Laries, which is
very small. Paid medical treatment is not very often affordable for
a big part of the population, which is caused due to their very
small incomes and unemployment. This makes people not to address
doctors in case of needs. This brings us to the conclusion that the
quantity of diseases is much more higher compared to the medical
statistical data.    |
