Toxic contamination

What is the general situation with the toxic contamination?

Lead (Pb). Use of leaded petrol has been reduced in recent years because of the reduction of its import (expert assessment, setting of exact data is impossible for different reasons - absence, unavailability or unreliability). Hydrometservice, responsible for the monitoring of the pollution of urban environment, does not have adequate data.

Cadmium (Cd). Pollution by Cd is expected to increase in the nearest future, because of increased volumes of construction and trimming works. At the same time there is no restriction in construction materials (paints) on Cd-content.

Toxic environmental pollution from existing enterprises reduced considerably since most of  factories actualy stop or change their activities(enterprises of ceramics in Saburtalo and Gldani, factory of silicate brick in Avchala). Because of actual absence of landfills the immediate pollution of dwelling areas by waste (garbage) on the one hand (see waste disposal ), and obvious increase in consumed volume of batteries (low price and low quality) compared with earlier times, must cause considerable pollution of city's soil (and probably groundwater) by heavy metals. This trend will continue at least in the nearest future.

Pesticides. There are no available data about the use of plant protection facilities, insecticides, disinfection, fungicides and other toxic substances used in the city. It is impossible to identify the trend.

Chlororganic compounds. Because of unavailability of measurement data and/or expert evaluation, it is impossible to identify the trend.
