MOTION 2000 PROJECT
- physical activity as an
engine of well-being for Turku residents
The goal of the project is
to inspire children and youths to a physically active lifestyle and
activate adults and elderly who do not exercise adequately for
health, to start suitable activities. MOTION 2000 is not limited to
a traditional concepts of sports but people are encouraged to enjoy
their leisure through a whole range of varied outdoor and physical
activities.
In MOTION 2000 project the
personnel in the youth affairs, sports, health care, social welfare
and education sectors act as action initiators, who locally (in
neighborhood areas) promote physical activity sufficient to maintain
health amongst themselves and by networking with other actors
(sports clubs and organizations, companies etc.). Network operation
is realized with environmental and service strategies that turn
support that action, and a physical activity advise strategy that
disposes people to take action.
The effect of MOTION 2000
has been and will be examined. Positive experiences of the project
has been reported on and distributed nationally and internationally.
In the future the local perspective sees physical activity as a
factor in promoting local activities and togetherness, and as an
instrument in preventing disaffection. The second perspective
examines physical activity as creator of new employment opportunities.
